Monett Motor Speedway will be back in action for the coming season under new management. Raymond Pitts and Steve Andrews of Jane, Mo., saw the track was available and didn't want it to cease operations.
Jeff Ogle has been hired to oversee the raceday operations and promote the long running facility. The current plan is to lease it for the season and then purchase if all goes as anticipated.
One of the biggest pieces of news is the return to Sunday night racing, made popular during the tenure of long-time Hall of Fame owner and promoter Randy Mooneyham.
“I've built a lot of friendships in the area, and had a lot of folks in area tell me I'd be good to promote it, and help just make the thing go and be successful,” said Ogle. “I've never had the opportunity before, so I figured it would be good now to grab the bull by the horns and try to rekindle it back to when Randy Mooneyham had it.”
Weekly divisions will be headlined by the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series featuring USRA Modifieds, URA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods, plus Super Stocks, Midwest Mods and Pure Stocks.
Bodie Gamble will handle tech and has a set of unified Pure Stock rules for the division.
The first on track action is right around the corner. Practices are slated for March 17 and 24 fron noon until dark. They will take off the March 31 for Easter and then race every Sunday until September. The Four-State Dirt Track Championship is on Aug. 31.
The Sunday night raceday will open the pits open at noon along with driver check in. The drivers meeting is slated for 4:30, with hot laps to follow and racing at 5.
“We're gonna work on the basics this season and make sure we have them under control," Ogle added. With all of the initial overhead expense to get started, we are going to stick pretty close to home with series and shows. We have to prove we can put on a good show in a timely fashion.”
Track officials will have more info as the season draws near. They will be offering season passes for the grandstands and the pits. Fans and racers can inquire about Monett Motor Speedway by calling (417) 236-6161 or email.
